Gonjah offers beautiful hiking trails for nature lovers looking to escape into the tranquillity of the indigenous forest.
Explore scenic surroundings filled with mountain streams, orchards, lush greenery and birdlife, with a beautiful waterfall waiting to be discovered along the way.
The waterfall trail is approximately 2.5 km each way. For a longer adventure, park at the gate on the cement slab and enjoy a 10 km round-trip hike. Allow approximately 2–3 hours to complete the trail.

4x4 Adventures
Discover the rugged beauty of the Gamtoos Valley on Gonjah’s two scenic 4×4 routes. Wind your way through indigenous bush, lush forested kloofs and open mountain terrain, with breathtaking views across the valley and towards the iconic Cockcomb Mountain.
You may spot wildlife such as nyala, bushbuck and impala, along with an array of birdlife, including the elusive Knysna turaco (loerie). Bring your binoculars — you never know what you might discover.

20 km Route | Approximately 5 hours
For those looking for a longer adventure, this route climbs to heights of up to 570 metres, rewarding you with spectacular panoramic views of the Gamtoos Valley and Cockcomb Mountain.

Gonjah is a haven for birdwatchers, groups regularly visit to explore the incredible birdlife found in the area. With over 100 bird species frequently spotted in the indigenous bush, there is always something to discover. Keep your eyes open for the colourful Knysna turaco (loerie), Malachite kingfisher, Narina trogon, African wood owl, hawks and many other fascinating species.
